Paris Tourism 8: In Pompidou 2 by flumpie Paris Tourism 8: In Pompidou 2 by flumpie
As you all know I don't understand this art thing. It's all so high-flying and fluffy. At the world's centre of modern art people kept looking at walls with seemingly nothing on it. On this wall where they had these thingies. I took a shot with my camera, so you could help explain what they were looking at.

[I usually don't whine about this, but full view is probably a good idea]

Paris Tourism series

1 - Notre Dame
2 - Le Quartier Latin
3 - Louvre
4 - La Seine
5 - Inside Louvre
6 - Sacre Coeur

Paris Tourism 8: In Pompidou 2 by =flumpie I love the, "what the hell is this" kind of stance both of these people have. Haven't really mastered shooting in a museum. Guess I'm too busy looking at the work. Very well composed photograph. ( Suggested by griff-flyer and Featured by cweeks )

Well, this particular movement emphasized concept over product. Artists like Marcel Duchamp and Donald Judd (whose art is pictured) made their art the way they did simply to toy with artistic definitions. These minimalists forced/force people to rethink their own connotations for art. You have to admit; being able to force ARTISTS to rethink their own ideas of art is pretty powerful.

Just by questioning whether or not Judd's sculpture is 'art' makes it successful art! That's what it's all about.

good thing i was there to capture that then, and yes, rethinking and questioning is what it's all about, even if I favour the dada approach to the world ;)

That sculpture is Donald Judd's work. He was a minimalist artist and i think they like very much his works =) but i cant explain why they are looking confused in there :omg:

this photo is so good! the classic disgruntled stance of the tourists just makes the photo even more classic... i can just see the lady thinking "my feet are killing, i don't get what the heck this is and i just wanna go and have a smoke and a coffee" he he he

Loved the museum, the museum of contemporary art in Oslo was a joke compared to the Pompidou centre. I'll be back there :) Also see =knuta's shots from the Pompidou :)

they were trying to act like they comprehended what was going on at the time that this artist was evaluated, sliced up, dissected, and people decided what exactly his work was saying, when in actually, they knew nothing of what was in this person's mind at the time of conception.
birth of art.

That's funny that they are wearing stripes that are going the opposite way from the artwork on their sides and the same in the middle. I think they are reading the descriptions of the art. I want an apartment with decor like that. All black and white. Nice shot! :-)

Shouldn't be too hard to get a carpenter to make such for you, and add some paint and you're set to go. Or you might just pop by IKEA ;)

Happy you like the shot :)

I just LOVE this image.
It is late and I am tired, otherwise I would look at the whole dang Paris series right this minute.
Have to do it tomorrow.

Like some one commented earlier:
Dig the nutty striped shirt on the person on the left?
THAT is priceless!
Great shot!

I really love this photo--the repetition of stripes, how the two people are more engrossed in the info cards than the art itself, and of course, how you can tell by their body language that they're trying to figure out the 'meaning' of these works when there is no meaning on that level; it is simply the aestetic value of the geometric shapes positioned in space/on a canvas. Definitely worth faving.

How did you get a camera in the Louvre? I can't get one into a show a college show, but the Louvre, man. Great photo, I too do not get modern art like this.

This was not at the Louvre but at the Pompidou centre. They weren't keen on cameras there either, but we can't let good shots go by because of such regulations :)
